Name Grid

Guess the hidden five-letter name in six tries. Letter clues show what is in the answer; later rounds unlock origin and meaning hints.

How to play

Type a five-letter name and submit. Tiles show correct letter in correct position (green with check), correct letter in wrong position (amber with arrow), or letter not present (grey with X). After guess 3, an origin hint appears. After guess 5, a meaning hint appears.

What this puzzle teaches or tests

Name Grid tests spelling deduction combined with name knowledge. The origin and meaning hints connect the deduction puzzle to VooWood's curated name database.

Use every guess as evidence

Name Grid hides one target and compares each guess with its spelling length and selected name attributes. The feedback narrows the possibilities over a limited number of rows. Daily mode uses a date-based target; practice mode lets you start another board whenever you want.

Hints arrive only after several guesses and reveal origin before meaning, so you still need to reason from the grid. The answer pool comes from VooWood’s local curated data rather than a remote feed. Progress is kept on this browser and is not attached to an account or public profile.

Color and small position marks work together so the clues are not communicated by color alone. A correct-position cell, a present-but-moved letter and an absent letter each have distinct styling. The text hint below the board adds contextual evidence later in the round.

The target list is intentionally small enough that attribute feedback remains interpretable. It is not intended as a complete directory of names or as advice for legal name registration. Each finished board can instead serve as a starting point for the linked meaning, language and methodology pages.
